Return from Mille Miglia 2009
With the Mille Miglia over for another year, Adrian, Terry and Trevor have now safely returned from their journey. Finishing in a superb 154th place out of 380 entrants, they have many stories to tell from their 1000 miles.
The C Type is unscathed, if rather dirty, and is due to return to England this week for a little TLC and a well earned rest! Others were not so lucky, with approximately 80 cars not completing the event. This is not really surprising when you think that these old, classic cars, travel at speed for 1000 miles, often travelling for 3 or 4 hours flat out between brief stops.
The rally took them through little towns, up into the snowy mountains and through the Italian countryside, experiencing temperatures of 30°C right down to 2°C when it was snowing! Every town visited was full of people waiting to cheer them along their way, whether it was 2 in the afternoon or 2 in the morning the crowds did not subside. Set up with their wine and their picnics, whole families camped out to watch.

It was an equally arduous event for the support crews. Trevor worked flat out to ensure the car was in great shape, raced from meeting point to meeting point to repair any minor faults along the way and replenish much needed water supplies for the drivers! This, however, was done without the luxury of the police escorts which the drivers had to help them through congested towns and red lights. Trevor had the joy of queuing around the edges of the towns to try and get ahead of the Jaguar travelling at top speed on clear roads!

Through all the trials and tribulations, the team worked fabulously and, although lacking in sleep, had a memorable adventure. Many congratulations to car 303 and the team and here’s to the preparation for next year!
