Guide to the Aston Martin DB4GT and Zagato

Making its debut at the London Motor Show in 1959, the DB4 GT was of the same design as the standard DB4 with its Superleggera construction and design by Aston Martin. However, this was an entirely different car underneath.

With a wheelbase 5 inches shorter than the standard DB4 and a lighter overall weight, the DB4 GT was much more suited to a race track. The engine was fitted with a new twin plug head and 45 DCOE Weber Carburettors, which increased performance to 302 bhp, a top speed of 153 mph and 0 to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds. This was also the first Aston Martin to be fitted with the iconic faired in headlamps.

The interior was much more basic than the standard DB4 and DB4 Convertible and the car was also fitted with Perspex windows to reduce weight. Four of the cars were also lightened further to produce extremely competitive race cars.

A variation of the model was also produced with coachwork by Zagato. This was modified further and was capable of 314 bhp.

Supplied new, the DB4 GT cost £4,534. Just 75 standard DB4 GT’s were produced and 19 original Zagato’s.
