Guide to the Aston Martin DB3
In 1950 Eberan von Eberhorst joined Aston Martin with the sole purpose of designing a new sports/racing car to replace the DB2. Produced between September 1951 and May 1953, the DB3 was first raced in the Tourist Trophy in September of 1951.
Only 10 cars were produced and only 5 of which were for sale. One car DB3/2 was for David Brown himself.
The chassis used was of an entirely new design, made up of a ladder frame with suspension by torsion bars with trailing links at the front, parallel links and a Panhard rod at the rear axle.
The body was of simple design with a new designed “portcullis” style radiator grille at the front. One team car (DB3/1) was also fitted with a hard top for the 1952 Le Mans event.
The original engine fitted to all DB3’s was the same Vantage unit previously fitted in the DB2.
When purchased new a DB3 cost £ 3,700.
